Demopolis City Schools 2023-2024 school year has officially begun with 267 faculty members returning today for the DCS Institute. Superintendent Tony Willis opened the meeting with a welcome, followed by an invocation and inspiration by DCS Board Chairman, Harris Hurst. Demopolis City Schools Foundation Director Margaret Anne Gilchrist announced the 2022-2023 SchoolFestwinner, Westside Elementary, as the school that raised the most funds for the Foundation this past year. She also announced the Hugh Lloyd Foundation Award recipient, Kristy Smith. Next up were the coveted school awards: Highest Teacher Attendance Award - US Jones Highest Student Attendance Award - DMS Clean Campus Award - US Jones Service with a Smile Award - DHS Safest Campus Award - Westside Highest student growth-secondary- 8th grade DMS Highest student growth elementary-2nd grade Westside Master Chef Award - DHS Jerseys were passed out to each new member of the TEAM and then Mr. Willis continued the meeting with an update on the Demopolis Difference, highlighting achievements made throughout the year. He then introduced guests, Jason Swann, ALSDE, Angela Martin, Deputy State Superintendent, Dr. Tonya Chestnut, Alabama State Board Representative for District 5, and Dr. Eric Mackey, Alabama State Superintendent. Dr. Chestnut raved that Demopolis was a system that was "all in!" Dr. Mackey was the keynote speaker and tasked DCS to remember those with learning gaps, constantly look for areas students need us, and to keep doing what we do. He reminded the faculty of the state motto: Every child, every chance, every day! Our obligation is to give opportunities for every child in our schools. DCS does just that and will continue! It's a great day to be a TIGER!

325 elementary students from US Jones Elementary & Westside Elementary School came together to kick off the Super Citizen Program for 2023. We love seeing enthusiasm regarding become a better citizen - it makes for a better future!
