Demopolis City Schools welcomes Dr. Aliquippa Allen as our newest Board member, replacing Mrs. Carolyn Moore, who served on the board for the past 10 years. Mrs. Moore was acknowledged at our last board meeting. Dr. Allen was officially sworn in during tonight’s meeting. The board unanimously approved the Minutes from the May meetings. Shelley Patrenos presented the audit findings and noted no discrepancies in the district's finances. Superintendent Tony Willis commended Demopolis High School for being selected as The Demopolis Times' Best High School of Marengo County, Westside for the Best Elementary School, Anna Moseley for the Best Elementary Teacher, and Connie Boutwell for the Best High School Teacher. Seven action items were approved, including the personnel report, inventory dispositions, and Dual Enrollment agreements with UWA and Wallace Community College. A second reading of Policy 5.10.1 (Admission of homeless, migratory immigrant, limited English proficient students, and foster care children) was conducted, along with a first reading of the 2024-25 Code of Conduct. The final action item approved was the three-year contract renewal for Superintendent Tony Willis. During the meeting, the board unanimously consented to allow HOSA students to attend the HOSA Conference this summer. At the meeting's conclusion, Willis delivered his Superintendent’s report, which included updates on controlled access at all doors on Demopolis City Schools campuses. He also reported that track renovations were underway, school vestibules were nearly 100% complete, and HVAC improvements at the high school were progressing well according to Schneider Electric (All rooms with issues are expected to be fully functional before the school year begins.) Summer school is currently in session and running smoothly. The next board meeting will be scheduled for July 22, 2024 @ 5:15.
