National School Counseling Week

It’s National School Counseling Week, and Demopolis City Schools has some exceptional counselors! Today’s Counselor Spotlight includes two very special ladies from Demopolis High School.

Traci Pearson has been in education for 30 years, serving as a counselor for 19 of those years. She spent eleven years as the counselor at Demopolis Middle School before joining DHS, where she has been for eight years. When asked why she chose counseling, she stated, “I saw counseling as a way to help students on an individual level. I enjoyed assisting students in identifying their strengths in the classroom and believed I could do more of that in the counselor's office.” Her favorite aspect of her position is helping students pursue their goals and celebrating their successes.

Laura Holley has been in education for 22 years, with sixteen of those years dedicated to counseling. She has worked at each school in Demopolis City Schools, spending six years at Westside, five at USJ, three at DMS, and is currently in her second year at DHS. When asked about her choice of counseling, she said, “When I was in high school, I was my high school counselor's aide during my senior year, and I loved assisting her and watching her help students. I knew then that I wanted to be a high school counselor when I grew up.” Mrs. Holley has a motto hanging outside her do

or that states, “Inspire others to see greatness in themselves.” This is what she loves most about her job—helping students be their best and preparing them for their futures.

Demopolis City Schools is blessed to have two of the best counselors serving at our high school.
